I've launched my website at long last but what's it all about and why launch now? Read on to find out all of the details.
September has always been my favourite time of the year, it goes back to my school days, when I would get excited about going back to school. Seeing children going back to school these last couple of days has brought back that excited feeling. That’s why for me I chose September to launch my website, I think it’s the perfect time of year to start something new. Much better than January as there is less pressure, the weather is still good and if you’re anything like me you’re getting excited for those all important new boots and coat purchases ready for the Autumn, my favourite season!
Creating this website has been something that has genuinely been on my to do list for almost two years but no more procrastinating and doubting myself here it is! Thanks to Covid-19 for giving me the time I needed to get my act together, for me it’s the silver lining of this pandemic and the strange world we’re all currently navigating.
So what’s my plan with the business? Well, I have lots of plans and ideas buzzing around my head but I’ve chosen to focus on one or two at a time in order to keep focus. I am running this alongside a full time job in TV Production. I really enjoy my job, I don’t plan to say goodbye to the career I’ve worked so hard in creating any time soon but long term, eventually yes I would love to build this up into something that becomes my full time job.
Part one of 'What Sarah Inks' is my calligraphy services. I’ve been offering calligraphy services for a few years now mainly to friends, friends of friends and work colleagues whether it be wedding ‘on the day’ stationery or a bespoke calligraphy commission for anniversaries and birthdays. I love it! I’d love to explore this more within the food and hospitality industry, food being the other big love of my life. Working with a supper club on invites, menus and place names would be my ideal project or an independent food brand to create bespoke lettering for their jars or packaging.
Part 2 of ‘What Sarah Inks’ is a stationery range I am designing with a focus on the home / kitchen organisation and planning side of things. I’ll save the details on this for another day but watch this space for more info.
It was important to me that the website was "right". I am a little bit of a perfectionist so if I was going to make ‘What Sarah Inks’ work I needed to do it properly. I wanted everything to be consistent with the style, colours, tone etc and hopefully I’ve achieved that. But most of all I wanted my love of calligraphy and stationery to come across to everyone who swings by for a poke around.
I obviously couldn’t have done this alone, I have to thank the lovely Lucy from Fresh Leaf Creative for taking my random thoughts and turning them into my dream branding, the colour palette of which has led to the style for this site. The brilliant Catherine Erdly who I have learned so much from on building a brand and a business from being part of her incredible Resilient Retail Club. Lastly my very supportive husband who has patiently listened to me ramble on about this for months, shown interest when I’ve showed him almost identical images and asked him to pick which one is better AND to trust me with his ‘proper’ camera and equipment so I could take good quality photos.
I’d love to know what you think of the site and if you would like more info on a particular product or service let me know. I plan to do regular blog posts covering stationery, calligraphy tips, calligraphy ideas etc so if there is anything you are keen to know tell me here.
Thanks for reading.
